DT - Real ales brewed by JH Taverns, Dorset

On site at the pub we have our very own ‘Micro Brewery’ - purchased in June 2010, and which has the capability of producing 1 Brewers Barrel (36 gallons) or (288 pints) on each ‘Brew Day’.

Brewing takes place on a weekly basis and we are happy for people to wander in and ask any questions they might have on these days to the ‘Master Brewers’ !!!!!!

Real ale from JH Taverns       Making real ale

Whether you get the correct answer is another thing. We tackle our brewing with an element of fun, but underneath we are very seriously accurate with ingredients and recipes.

Our registered trademark is the ‘dt’ logo for both our permanent in-house real ales. This abbreviation is a mixture of our Dorset postcode and the dreaded “delirium tremens” a psychotic condition typical of withdrawal in chronic alcoholics, involving tremors, hallucinations, anxiety, and disorientation – which we are sure you will not get from us !!!!

Brewing real ale process       DT4 real ale barrel

DT3 Firstly ‘dt3’ is 3.5% in alcohol and a very light Pale “summer” session real ale, which has light hoppy notes and a pale complexion, leaving distant memories of weak fruit thoughts on the tongue.

DT4 Then ‘dt4’ is 4.5% in alcohol and a robust, smoky and hoppy real ale, brewed with vast quantities of fresh hops at each stage – this bellows fruit and fragrance all the way to the bottom of your glass.

We will be brewing special celebration ales for Christmas, Easter etc – or any chance we have to experiment !!

Real ale

We are more than happy to swap our barrels of real ale with other breweries or sell the odd barrel for a party, but generally you will have to come to the pub to sample the ‘fruits’ of our labour.
